Our base is located in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche, specifically Nahuel Huapi National Park in northern Patagonia. Argentina’s first national park and one of its largest, Nahuel Hupai consists of an infinite number of pristine environments including both rivers and lakes. In general, the guests of Massive Trout Fly Fishing prefer to float rivers and lakes in drift boats. The season runs November to May, with opportunites to fish with dry flies or heavier sinking lines and big streamer patterns.

During a typical daily trip, you will be picked up by your guide at your lodging location around 08:00 am or earlier, depending on which environment we are fishing that day. We travel anywhere from 20-60 minutes until we arrive at our put-in place for fishing. Your guide will prepare the boat, the fishing equipment and provide the safety talk prior to the excursion. During the day, you can enjoy a typical water-side Argentinean lunch, with excellent wines and other beverages of your choice.. If you like, you can even continue to fish while lunch is being prepared and you are enjoying a cold drink.

Depending on the skill level of the fisherman, your guide can provide tips related specifically to fly fishing the water you are on at the time including casting techniques, floating dry flies, swinging streamers, the take, the hook set and the landing of the fish.

Patagonia Argentina is more than rivers and lakes full of wild rainbow trout, brown and brook trout and Salmon. While fishing, we’ll also see amazing native flora and fauna and wilddlife such as condors, guanacos, red deer, foxes and pumas.

After a day of incredible fishing and sharing stories of the great catches and the ones that got away, you will finish the day around 17:00 pm. Our driver will be waiting for us as we exit the water, and your guide will take care of putting everything in order. All you need to do is think back on the day’s many unforgettable moments and take another look at the photos of your amazing catches!

The experience of Massive Trout Fly Fishing makes interpreting instantly what the client is looking for when planning for overnight trips. The modality of this type of trip allows our clients to fish or be in fishing environments for many more hours than daily excursions, since the days begin on the water, with a hot breakfast cooked over a fire, fishing all morning only to break for a fabulous water-side lunch and then fish the afternoon nearly to darkness before you arrive at your prepared campsite where drinks, appetizers and dinner are served and memories of the day are repeated around the crackling camp fire.

The overnight fishing and camping environments occur in the nearest National Park, Nahuel Huapi, or Lanin National Park located 200 km northwest of the city of San Carlos de Bariloche which provide interesting options like the Rio Caleufu, Rio Collon Cura, Rio Alumine, Rio Chimehuin, and Malleo among others. The cities that are close to these environments are Junin de los Andes, San Martin de los Andes and Bariloche city.

Usually our customers choose 3 days - 2 night overnight trips, but we can provide trips of 5 days and 4 nights. Together with the cargo boys and several 4-wheel drive trucks, we carry everything necessary for the overnight trips.

Depending on the origin of the overnight trip, we will set out early in the morning, after your breakfast and pickup at your place of lodging. Prior to setting out, you will be provided with a dry bag (1 each two customers) of more than 60 liters where you can put everything necessary for the amount of days that will be outdoors. This bag will go into the cargo boys boat and at the end of your first day of fishing, it will be waiting for you in camp in your sleeping tent. Additionally, you will be provided a smaller bag of 20 liters for all the things you need during your day on the water that will be with you in the fishing boat.

Once we have reached the place where we will begin the overnight trip, your guide and cargo boys put everything in order while the clients give us a hand with the assembly of the fishing equipment and even in many cases finish assembling the bags that go directly to the camp and those things that we will transport with us. After about 45 minutes of preparation, you start to float and fish, obviously after a few hours we will stop for a full lunch and drinks, with a nap in between if necessary ... there is no hurry, we have the whole river to fish! During the afternoon we will continue floating and fishing the river, taking in the magnificent scenery only to arrive around 06:00 pm to a camp already established by the cargo boys, where we will have a dinner tent, kitchen tent, our own individual tent (1 tent every two fishermen) with cots, sleeping bags, bedside table, light, pillows, and all personal items including towels to clean up after a day on the water.

Surely the attentive cargo boys will be waiting for us with exquisite appetizers, and our drinks that you selected in the pre-trip talk. The evening will continue with a typical Argentinean dinner, all-natural beef in a grill with soft drinks, beer or wine and desserts followed by more tea or coffee if you desire.

In the camp you will also have your personal bathroom and if requested, a shower with warm water every night.

Each day the boys will move the camp around 15 - 20 km downstream, as we fish new water each day. At the end of the overnight trip, we will find the vehicles we came in that were already moved by our drivers. And, after a great group toast and "we made it", we will organize everything, to return to your place of lodging.

Many anglers prefer to choose their destination, rivers to fish and place to stay, then hire a guide service to fish. Others prefer to choose a very comfortable lodge and stay in one location and fish the waters that are there with guides that are available. Both enjoy the excellent food and cuisine that come with each. Or perhaps stall in a well-appointed hotel or apartment in downtown Bariloche and enjoy the nightlife after fishing.

So, let’s say you are planning a one-week fishing vacation, with or without your other half or perhaps a fishing buddies’ trip. You may have a designated period in the year where it all coordinates with your party. The question then becomes, where is the best fishing for that time of year? Where ever that is, where should we stay? Are there good restaurants nearby? Maybe stay at a lodge? What if we camp 1 night, stay at a lodge 2 nights and then experience the best of Bariloche’s night life for 2 or 3 nights while we fish all of the days in between. How do I figure this out? Its like cherry picking the best of the best without having a clue what to do!

Simple!

Let us know what you have in mind maybe as general as we just described and let us do the rest. We’ll figure it all out and achieve your budget. We can also give you an option or two if you want to stretch your budget. There are rivers and lakes that fish excellent at certain moments and not as well other moments. There are local brew pubs in or near Bariloche with great live music and atmosphere that no tourist has ever heard of. We know where they are! How about that fabulous restaurant with the best steaks, chops or fresh trout and fabulous wine that is not a “tourist” restaurant. We know where they are and chances are, we are friends with the owner and have access to tables when they are not always available. There are lodges on certain waters that fish great at certain times of the season. Perhaps stay 2 nights, fish 2 or 3 days, have the fine lodging experience, then change it up for 2 nights camping and floating, then hit the town for 2 nights for the bon voyage back to reality! While fishing every day in between if your arm doesn’t fall off!
